Vale Needs Further
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our much loved stallion, Needs Further.
A horse who meant so much to us here at Armidale Stud, Needs Further leaves an extraordinary legacy, not only on our farm, but across the wider industry, particularly in Tasmania, where his influence has been profound.
A Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes winner, Needs Further went on to become one of Tasmania’s most influential sires. His greatest chapter was written through his progeny, most famously Mystic Journey, the Group 1 Australian Guineas winner who captured the hearts of racing fans with her historic victory in the inaugural All Star Mile.
To date, he has sired 182 individual winners of an incredible 514 races, including 14 individual stakes horses. A multiple leading sire, his contribution was fittingly recognised with back-to-back Tasmanian-Based Leading Sire titles, most recently in 2026.
But beyond the achievements and accolades, Needs Further was a treasured member of the Armidale family. His presence on the farm will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and cared for him.
We are immensely proud of all that he achieved, and grateful for the years we shared with him. His legacy will live on through the generations of horses he leaves behind.
Rest peacefully, Ned. You will always be part of the family. To us, you were what dreams are made of!
