TOUGH SPEED is a Group winning miler, who earned the annual Timeform rating of 123 as a four year old. Grandson of two of the world’s greatest Sires Mr Prospector and Nijinsky, he is bred on the same cross as successful Victorian sire UMATILLA. TOUGH SPEED who was described by Timeform as “a tall, good sort, who consistently took the eye in the paddock”, was one of the leading European Milers of his generation. A tough, genuine and sound horse Tough Speed won at two, missed his three year old season due to illness, then raced on at 4, 5 and 6 retiring to stud sound.

From 16 lifetime starts TOUGH SPEED won 3 times, ran 2 seconds, and 4 thirds, including wins in the Group 3 Park Stakes, and a third in the Group 2 Queen Anne Stakes at Ascot.

From limited opportunites TOUGH SEED has sired the stakes winners.

LYELL (TTC Tasmanian Guineas, 3rd TTC Newmarket Hcp) and TOUGH CHIK (TRC Srutt Stakes) as well as the stakes placed horses SPEEDY SKY and JAY BEE’S GEE GEE (3rd Tasmanian Derby).
