Excitement is building for connections of Tasmanian bred gelding Settlers Stone who kicks of his interstate spring campaign on Saturday which hopefully culminates in a start in the 2017 Melbourne Cup.
The gelding by deceased Armidale stallion Saviore Vivre (sire of The Cleaner) from the Octagonal mare Rock Chick was purchased by trainer Troy Blacker from the Armidale draft at the 2013 Tasmanian Magic Millions sale for $2,500.
He was later syndicated to a group of local and intestate owners including racing media personalities Peter Staples, Jim Robb and Sky presenter Dave Carlson.
The now 6yo stepped up to a new level towards the end of last campaign with a fast finishing 4th in the Group 3 Launceston Cup. He then traveled to Melbourne for two runs, with another fast finishing 3rd in the Listed Roy Higgins and an unlucky 3rd in the Listed Mornington Cup. Both these runs indicted that he would be competitive in races like the Bendigo Cup and the Bart Cummings which offer ballot free entry into the Melbourne Cup.
Settler’s Stone campaign starts over 1400m at Caulfield at 5.15pm on Saturday. He will be ridden by Dwayne Dunn.
We wish connections and trainer Troy Blacker all the best for his spring campaign
