What a fantastic nights racing at Launceston tonight with great results for Armidale sired or bred horses.
In the first race of the night 2YO Filly, Triple Strip (pictured) (2f Needs Further x Short ‘n’ Sweep) trained by John Blacker, was superbly ridden by Victorian jockey Jason Benbow saving ground along the rails to defeat the favourite Gee Gee Pengala. The filly was purchased by Matthew Bosworth at the 2017 Tasmanian Magic Millions Sale and syndicated amongst friends. Matthew is Armidales livestock agent for sheep and cattle and doesn’t mind inspecting the horse flesh on the farm during his rounds. It was Needs Further first winner from his 2nd crop and he has now sired 7 winners from 19 starters.
In race 3 it was a tough win by Moorcroft (4g Foxwedge x Pottery) who was three-wide the trip and fought on tenaciously to hold out Kandahar. The gelding is raced by long-time supporter of the farm Denise Martin under her Star Thoroughbred’s syndication business and is trained by Barry Campbell. It was also nice to see Damien Thornton return to the state to ride after a stint based in South Australia. Welcome back Damien.
Pateena Arena (3f Needs Further x Gehenna) returned from a spell in fantastic order with a fast finishing third in the 3YO Cup behind Mr Songman and Gee Gee Lannett. She had to give weight to all her rivals under the SW&P conditions of the race. IL Regalo (3f Needs Further x Your Call) also ran a terrific race after starting slowly to finish 4th only 2.4 lengths behind the winner.
In the Listed Conquering Stakes, Hellova Street (7g Helike x Butter Street) was far from disgraced running 2nd to the inform I’m Wesley. Killin Falls (5g Savoire Vivre x Almost Ripe) ran a nice race and looks on target for trainer Glen Stevenson to give his home cup a hell of a shake in early January. Speed Force (5g Tough Speed x Why For) ran well first up and will improve the further he goes.
Well done to all connections. #TasBred #BuyTasmanian #TeamArmidale
