Armidale bred 3YO’s on track for feature race success

Although both Double You Tee and Pateena Arena didn’t win last weeks Tasmanian Guineas they both showed that they will be very competitive in the feature races for 3YO’s over the Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival.

The John Blacker trained Double You Tee (3c Written Tycoon – Kandy Korn) was well ridden by Jason Maskiell saving ground along the rails to go down narrowly to the David Miller trained Overplay. The colt finished strongly and looks to be crying out for more distance which he will get in the Hobart Guineas and Tasmanian Derby.

Double You Tee is second highest price yearling ever sold at the Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling sale. He was purchased by trainer John Blacker from the Armidale draft at 2016 Tasmanian Yearling Sale for a then record price $115,000.

Pateena Arena 3f (Needs Further – Gehenna) who was third up from a spell and although beaten 2.6 lengths into 3rd place, ran well. She will be one of the top chances in the 1000’s Guineas and Strutt Stakes with the Tasmanian Oaks her main goal.

The filly by second season sire Needs Further was purchased at the 2016 Tasmanian Yearling Sale for $22,000. She has won over $150,000 from her 8 careers starts.
