DOUBLE FOR ARMIDALE SIRES AT MOWBRAY

The first week of the new racing season has been nothing short of spectacular for Armidale bred horses, and sires. The run of success continued at Mowbray yesterday, despite there only being 4 races run due to heavy rain and poor visibility during race 4 causing the meeting to be postponed.

The first race was won in gutsy fashion by first starter DARTEL (Telesto – Dartington). Purchased for $14,000 from the Armidale Stud Draft at the Magic Millions yearling sale in 2011, by Ken and Tania Hanson, DARTEL was patiently ridden by Rashi Yetimova and fought on gamely when challenged by the favourite near the line, to win by a head. DARTEL won a  VOBIS BONUS for his owners and looks certain to go on and win more races.  Armidale stud bred and raced his stakes winning dam DARTINGTON (a half sister to multiple Group 2 winner WEASEL WILL) and she has already proven her worth as a broodmare throwing stakes placed winner of 8 WHY FOR (2nd Tasmanian Oaks). Armidale will offer a 3/4 brother to DARTEL from WHY FOR at the 2013 Tasmanian Yearling Sale. DARTINGTON has a Strategic yearling that will also be offered at the 2013 sales and she is in foal to BANCA MO’S sire TOUGH SPEED.

SAVOIRE VIVRE (GB) continued on his run of siring winners with second starter DEUX FOIX (from Xanex) winning the 1400m maiden most impressively by 6 lengths. A big striding, strong gelding this horse looks like he will enjoy more ground. Bred and sold by Alva Stud he is trained by Stuart Gandy of Brighton, and was ridden by David Pires.
