Well that may be an exaggeration but the feedback coming from England is that Aussies are a ‘dime a dozen’ at present and the media hype surrounding champion mare BLACK CAVIAR is nothing short of phenomenal. Mind you FRANKEL’s 11 LENGTH win two days ago was also nothing short of phenomenal. David reports that he is a magnificent indiviudal and just ‘smashed’ the opposition. David and Rhiannon are away on annual leave and thoroughly enjoying staying with our great friend William Huntington for 2 weeks over the Ascot carnival before heading to Sweden, and home via Paris and a race meeting at Longchamp! David and Rhiannon caught up with fellow Tasmanian, and Darley Flying Start graduate Nick Hay at Ascot – Nick looking very dapper dressed for the Royal Enclosure in top hat and tails. David and Rhiannon had to ‘slum it’ in the general admission and said it would have been worth paying the extra for the Royal Enclosure (which was huge!) because getting around the General Admission areas was very difficult due to the large crowds. They commented it was almost impossible to view the horses in the pre parade ring, then make it back to some sort of vantage point to see the running of the race.
Lovely to see SO YOU THINK win his 11th Group 1 race, and very interesting to read ( ANZ Bloodstock News), his trainer comment that he would have won plenty more if it hadn’t taken him so long to work out how to train the horse. So You Think now heads back to Australia to stand his first season at Coolmore at a fee of $66,000.
Well I imagine there will be a few sleepless nights for the connections of Black Caviar – evidently their entourage totals over 150! (they must have almost hired their own jet!).
