11th February 2012

Well I thought it would be easy to keep up to date with my ‘ramblings’ but time seems to fly during yearling prep and there are never enough hours in the day. With the ‘countdown’ on to the Tassie Sales (11 days left) and the Premier Sales in Victoria right afterwards its all systems go trying to ensure our yearlings are in tip top condition and behaving like champions!

Camilla is home for a couple of weeks resting up before heading across to assist Three Bridges at Premier, then on up the Hunter to work for the Mitchell family prepping Yarraman Park yearlings for the Easter Sale. She’s just finished an 8 week stint in New Zealand culminating with Karaka Sale, so she’s really on the move trying to get plenty of experience and no doubt learning heaps.

Hobart Cup day tomorrow so lets hope the weather holds, and more importantly lets hope a local horse can win the Cup.

Had a call from Jason Bradshaw today enquiring about a mare, and learnt that the lovely Churchill Downs – Caralowe filly we sold last year (topped the Tasmanian Sale at $62,000 to the bid of Mark Riley and to the utter dismay of John Keys!) is progressing well and only about 5 weeks off a start. He also has a lovely Tough Speed 2 year old from Dazzling Vintage (dam of Derby winner Methusela) whom he has a decent opinion of. He was bred by the Late Bert Wicks and sold as a weanling as part of the clearance of his estate.

Where has our summer gone? It was magnificent until last week and suddenly we have dropped 8 degrees in temperature and its windy on and off and trying to rain. Not great weather for trying to photograph yearlings!
